From 1920s modernism to post-war villas
Statistics Netherlands (CBS) counts 139 homes and 329 residents in the Rijksdorp-De Pan neighbourhood, which covers the villa park. Almost a quarter of the houses predate 1945, but over four in ten were built between 1945 and 1975. Rijksdorp was never fully built up before the war; afterwards, smaller villas filled the gaps.
Of the pre-war houses, those by architect Henk Wegerif stand out. His own home, De Pasch at Van Bergenlaan 7, built in 1925 on a high dune top, is strikingly modern: flat roof, steel windows, plenty of light. De Witte Hoogt on the Meijboomlaan is very similar, right down to the window details. The villa Samuel de Clercq built on the Meijboomlaan, by contrast, has tall chimneys like an English country house.
Those differences shape the choice. On a modernist villa the aim is slim profiles that follow the original lines; on a post-war villa, more glass and a new layout. Energy labels vary just as much: F and A are the most common in the neighbourhood.
