If you are looking for new windows in Leidschendam, your home most likely dates from one clear building period. The old centre around the lock (sluis) in the Vliet canal was, according to the municipality, probably inhabited from around 1300. In the north of town, the large housing blocks of De Heuvel and Prinsenhof went up from 1960, followed from 1980 by the low-rise streets of 't Lien and De Rietvink. Each asks something different of a window.

So we start with your house, not a brochure. In the showroom you can compare the options side by side; at your home we work out what actually fits.

Windows in Leidschendam: four practical decisions

  1. Flat: allow for fitting at height

Many residents of De Heuvel and Prinsenhof live above ground level. On the first floor, installation costs 15% more; if scaffolding is needed, 30%. The free survey shows what your home needs, so the quote is right first time.

  2. Terraced house: front and back in one go

From five frames upwards you get an 8% volume discount, and the one-off project costs for transport and disposal are charged only once per order. uPVC frames take 4 to 6 weeks to produce, and most homes are finished in one to a few days.

  3. Garden: hinged or sliding

Double French doors are the classic choice. For a wider opening, a lift-and-slide door glides aside almost silently once you raise the sash with the handle, in two, three or four sections. A tilt-and-slide door (schuif-kiepdeur) is the lighter option, and the more fixed glass, the better the price per m².

  4. By the lock: check the rules first

In the protected townscape, profiles, glazing bars (roeden) and colour are regulated. We check your address before you decide. uPVC with a Golden Oak or walnut (Notenhout) woodgrain foil gives the look of timber without painting; for very slim sightlines there is aluminium Reynaers SlimLine 38.

Neighbourhoods of Leidschendam

A short sketch of each area, based on the municipality's own description.

Old centre and lock

The nineteenth-century lock complex and the buildings along the Vliet have been a nationally protected village townscape (rijksbeschermd dorpsgezicht) since 2006. The square between the two churches was created when part of the old lock basin was filled in.

De Heuvel and Prinsenhof

Large-scale housing blocks from the 1960s onwards, arranged in a double square around green space. In Prinsenhof hoog the flats were renovated as part of a regeneration plan.

De Zijde and Duivenvoorde

Districts from the same Uitbreidingsplan Noord with plenty of low-rise housing, but also more than 1,100 apartments.

't Lien and De Rietvink

Built from 1980 as the last major extensions of Leidschendam, with mostly ground-level family houses alongside just over a thousand apartments.

Damsigt

An area the municipality describes as mainly low-rise housing at ground level. Every home has its own facade, and so its own choice of layout and colour.

Leidschendam homes and the window frames that suit them

Leidschendam grew in stages. A first group of workers' houses appeared around the Karpaten in 1915, followed in 1925 by the Rode Pannenbuurt, now a municipal monument. Around 1955 the town got its first real block of flats, on the Koningin Julianaplein. The big expansion came with the 1957 Uitbreidingsplan Noord, which laid out six districts: Laanzicht, De Heuvel, De Zijde, Amstelwijk, Prinsenhof and Duivenvoorde.

In De Heuvel and especially Prinsenhof, the blocks of flats form a double square around a large green inner area. Here the job is many identical windows at height. De Zijde, Duivenvoorde, 't Lien and De Rietvink have a much higher share of ground-level family houses. For those terraced and corner houses, uPVC (kunststof) frames with a steel core are often the sensible choice: well insulated, low-maintenance and less expensive than aluminium.

If you have a garden, the back of the house is the moment to think beyond a like-for-like frame. You can choose double French doors (tuindeuren), with optional side panels and a transom, or a lift-and-slide door (hefschuifpui) with a low or flush threshold.

Questions we often hear

Is my house in Leidschendam's protected village townscape?

The protected area covers the lock complex and the buildings along the Vliet in the old centre. If you live there, rules apply to profiles, glazing bars and colour. Give us your address and we will check in advance.

What is the extra cost if my flat is upstairs?

Fitting on the first floor carries a 15% supplement, or 30% if scaffolding is needed. The price of the frame itself does not change. Your quote shows frame, glass and fitting separately.

Garden doors or a lift-and-slide door for a terraced house?

French doors come single or double, with optional side panels and a transom. A lift-and-slide door moves sideways, needs no swing space indoors and has a low or flush threshold. At the survey we look at what the opening and your garden allow.

Do you help with the ISDE subsidy?

Yes. If the glass meets the requirements, we help you with the application. Triple glazing (HR+++) costs around € 90 per m² more than standard HR++, insulates better and noticeably reduces noise.
