Hardware that resists salt
Near the sea we fit corrosion-resistant hinges and locks. That goes for windows and doors, and just as much for a lift-and-slide door (hefschuifpui) you open every day.

In shortKozijnen Wassenaar supplies uPVC and aluminium windows, sliding doors, roller shutters and sun shading in Katwijk aan Zee, Katwijk-Noord, Katwijk aan den Rijn, Rijnsburg and Valkenburg. Close to the sea we use corrosion-resistant hardware and, on aluminium, a coating made for coastal conditions. Measuring is free and the quote follows within 24 hours.

Impression · Houses behind the dunes by the sea with screens in front of the windows
Windows in Katwijk have a harder life than those a few kilometres inland. The town sits on the North Sea, with its southern and northern dunes forming part of the Hollandse Duinen National Park. Salt in the air and wind on the facade call for different choices in hardware, finish and sun shading.
Yet Katwijk is more than its coastline. Rijnsburg and Valkenburg joined the municipality in 2006, and Katwijk aan den Rijn has its own historic village centre. There, the question is less about sea wind and more about how to insulate an older village house or a 1980s family home properly.
Katwijk aan Zee is an old fishing village, recorded as Catwijck as early as 1231. During the Second World War the occupiers demolished a 200-metre strip of houses along the coast to make way for the Atlantic Wall, and the seafront only took on its present look after the war. The White Church (Witte Kerkje) still stands on the boulevard, the only church in the Netherlands right on the sea. Living on or just behind the boulevard means dealing with salt and wind every day.
In Katwijk-Noord, the Hoornes area has post-war flats including three tower blocks. Rijnsoever was built in the 1980s and 1990s on former bulb fields and is mostly family houses with their own front door; Park-Rijnsoever followed from 2011. For homes of that age the focus is insulation and upkeep: uPVC frames (kunststof kozijnen) with HR++ or triple glazing and warm-edge spacers against condensation.
Katwijk aan den Rijn, Rijnsburg and Valkenburg lie further from the beach. Katwijk aan den Rijn has eighteenth-century buildings around its old village church, and Valkenburg has farmhouses from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. With properties like these we first check whether the building is listed, because then rules apply to profiles, glazing bars and colour.

Near the sea we fit corrosion-resistant hinges and locks. That goes for windows and doors, and just as much for a lift-and-slide door (hefschuifpui) you open every day.
On the coast, aluminium gets a salt-resistant coating in the RAL colour of your choice. Aluprof MB-86N, thermally broken, is the most popular profile; Cortizo COR Vision keeps the sea view as uncluttered as possible.
Screens keep heat out while you keep the view. Electric shading with sun and wind sensors runs itself: down when the sun comes out, back up when the wind picks up. Exterior shading stops heat before it reaches the glass.
Roller shutters (rolluiken) insulate, black out, reduce noise and slow down burglars. Choose surface-mounted or built-in, manual or electric with a switch, remote, app or timer.
The municipality of Katwijk is made up of five villages, each with its own character and its own distance from the sea.
The old fishing village with the boulevard, the White Church and the Vuurbaak beacon from 1605. This is where hardware and coating matter most.
Hoornes, Rijnsoever and Park-Rijnsoever, between the Oude Rijn and the ESTEC site. From post-war flats to detached houses on individual plots.
An old centre around the Rijnstraat and the village church, surrounded by neighbourhoods such as the Molenwijk, Cleijn Duin and ’t Sandt. Older village houses next to post-war expansion.
Home of the annual flower parade, with a church whose tower dates from the twelfth century and the house where Spinoza lived. Characterful buildings in and around the centre.
Built on the site of the Roman fort Praetorium Agrippinae, with historic farmhouses and the grounds of the air base that closed in 2006.

Calculate your priceSalt and wind wear down hardware and finishes faster than inland. That is why we use corrosion-resistant hinges and locks on the coast and give aluminium a coastal-grade coating.
Both work. uPVC is low-maintenance and more affordable; aluminium gives slimmer profiles and larger panes for the view. Aluminium costs roughly 15 to 25 percent more.
With a wind sensor, electric shading retracts by itself when the wind gets too strong. That makes screens, a folding-arm awning (knikarmscherm) or a drop-arm awning workable on the coast too.
Triple glazing insulates better than HR++ and reduces noise, and warm-edge spacers keep the glass edge warmer. It costs about € 90 per square metre more. When we measure, we also check how the frame meets the brickwork and sill.
Yes. Both are part of the municipality of Katwijk, and measuring there is just as free as in Katwijk aan Zee. Further from the sea, coastal hardware is not always needed; we advise per address.
